5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily is what we need to stay healthy. When you add onto that the recommended servings of whole grains, proteins, and other nutrients, WHO HAS TIME? We all do if we're clever about when and what we eat. Below are a few little tricks to help get those servings in. If you're going to eat every day, EAT WELL!

Begin Your Day With a Bowl

No, we aren't talking about slamming a big glass of sugary OJ or even just a big bowl of fruit. It is easy to find balance while increasing fruit intake by making beautiful breakfast bowls containing protein, fruits, grains, and herbs. If you prefer savory flavors, add in some avocado and tomatoes. If sweet flavors are more your thing, go in for berries instead.

Veggie wraps are a great way to get only the veggies you love into a quick, healthy, and easy-to-travel lunch! The combinations are endless and wraps can be made of almost anything thin and soft. Think: naan, pita, tortillas, even lettuce.

PRO TIP: Keep any dressing you might want to add on the side until you're ready to eat so that the wrap doesn't get soggy.

Smoothies are such a fast way to get multiple servings of fruits AND veggies all in one sitting. Some ingredients like baby spinach and avocado are near tasteless when mixed with other ingredients, while others pack a flavor punch without using much like oranges, lemon, or ginger. You can choose a "creamer" from oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk. You may want to add in some plain Greek Yogurt to up the protein count. Choose some fruits / veggies to toss in there. Maybe grab a natural nut butter. Check into extracts for a few drops of big flavor. Do you want more protein? Cool. Drop in a scoop of protein powder. Add a couple of ice cubes and blend away.

For busy people, snacks are the way to go. Prepping is a snap when tossing healthy snacks into little containers for later... cut veggies into little sticks (zucchini, bell pepper, carrots) or slices (radishes, cucumbers, yellow squash), clean some mouth-poppers (grapes, cherries, blueberries), and toss in some almonds or heart-healthy walnuts for great on-the-go snack times full of vitamins and nutrients while getting those servings in!

Not really in the mood for much, but your stomach is hangry? Pick up a potato! Sweet potatoes can be a healthy eat by avoiding the butter / cinnamon / sugar route and instead using EVOO with salt and pepper. Better yet? Slice them, toss slices in the EVOO, salt and pepper, and toss in the air fryer for some sweet and salty yummy fries! Not a fan of the sweet potato? Pick a plain potato to bake, and choose toppings that will up that veggie count such as broccoli (and cheese with ham) or bell pepper and onions (with steak strips or grilled chicken and cheese). The possibilities are endless.

You can knock out a FEW serving needs for your fruits and vegetables by making a salad be the star of your meal. By using nutrient-packed greens (kale, arugula, spinach) and packing on veggies (radishes, beets, broccoli, cauliflower) and fruits (avocado, tomatoes, berries), you can fulfil all of your nutrition needs with just one plate! Keep the dressing light, pick a protein, and ENJOY!

Fruit On Display

Not only is fresh fruit gorgeous, but if it is displayed in your kitchen, you'll be more tempted to grab some to snack on instead of going in for more unhealthy options. Also, guess what?? You'll be upping those needed daily servings at the same time!

Fruit as the Finale

If you're the type that loves a full-course meal to end your day, and it just isn't complete without desert, incorporate fruit into your grand finale! You can use macerated (lemon juice and honey) fruit of your choosing and if making a parfait-type desert, mix a lemon-flavored protein powder with vanilla Greek yogurt for an amazing lemon cheesecake flavor! Keeping it healthy is the hard part. Getting that last serving of fruit for the day is easy and YUM.

Fruits & veggies are super easy to fit into your daily eating habits when you're eating balanced meals. Your plate should be mostly veggies and use them to fulfil your fiber needs as well - then you're sure to get enough! If you have a sweet tooth, think sweet potatoes and remember...deserts don't have to be bad for you.
